Contemporaneous makes its first appearance on the stage of the Bang on a Can Marathon, an annual incomparable super-mix of boundary-busting music from around the corner and around the world! With two separate sets on the program, Contemporaneous will participate in 8 hours of performances with music by Andrew Norman and Jherek Bischoff.
A Rome Prize winner, Andrew Norman puts his labored process of composition to music in his intense and dramatic work Try. With false-starts, mulligans, stumbles, and chaotic rewinds, this beautifully constructed piece depicts its own creation. Following a performance by Meredith Monk and Theo Bleckmann, Contemporaneous will fill the Winter Garden with a new set of ambient large ensemble music by "pop polymath" composer Jherek Bischoff, a frequent and exciting collaborator.
Program:
Andrew Norman (b. 1979): Try (2011)
Jherek Bischoff (b. 1979): Selections, announced from stage (including world premieres!)
