Tracing through music a youthful sense of magic and possibility, the show opens with John AdamsSon of Chamber Symphony, an apotheosis of the manic joy of discovery.

Inspired by the discovery that Jan Vermeer edited out a figure standing in the doorway of his peaceful 1657 painting, A Sleeping Girl, Julia Wolfe's The Vermeer Room shivers with sinister daydreams.

“A short burst of physical, muscular energy, sometimes menacing, sometimes exuberant” — that’s how Yotam Haber describes We were all, a transfixing blend of vigor and delicacy, composed for three voices and ensemble.

Thomas Adès' work Living Toys is an adventure, a projection of a child's magnificent and superhuman vision of a future life. Adès translates these images  into music of exuberant imagination and transportive power.
