HORN
Cameron West is a versatile hornist and songwriter with a passion for new and exciting music.
As a founding member of the Hudson Valley Brass Quintet, Cameron performed and taught at the prestigious Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival in South Africa. The quintet was also featured on Hungarian television for their performance at Semsey Castle in Balmazújváros, Hungary. In December 2014, the group accompanied the Bard Vocal Arts Program and grammy award winner Dawn Upshaw at Bard College's Winter Song Fest.
He has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, and Palm Beach Opera.
Cameron has performed in the pit of broadway musicals Something Rotten! and Fiddler on the Roof, and has performed off-broadway productions of Aida and The Apple Tree. Cameron was also the music director, pianist, and hornist for the musical H2-Oh No!, directed by Benjamin Hopkins and Harry Beer.
His horn playing can be heard on albums by Andy Zipf, Chris Rubeo, Finnegan Shanahan, Jesse Featherstone, Yotam Haber, and Yassou Benedict.
Cameron is also an active singer-songwriter and composer, with several performances, recordings, and a video directed by Yuxin Huang to his credit. He has performed at Birdland in New York and established a residency at Sheddy’s Bar and Grill in Los Angeles in 2013. Cameron composed "Last Minute Panic," a horn quintet commissioned by Julie Landsman in 2012. He also composed the music for the 2009 documentary “Return to Virunga: The Battle to Save the Mountain Gorillas,” directed by Stefan Lovgren and premiered by Discovery Channel Latin America. Cameron released his first full-length album of original songs called “Forest Through the Trees” in 2014, and his EP "S" in 2012.
Cameron is a native of Valencia, California, and earned a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology from Bard College. His former teachers include Julie Landsman, Julia Pilant, Jeffrey Lang, and Barbara Jostlein.
Cameron joined Contemporaneous at Bard College in 2011.
