Opening Contemporaneous' year-long residency at National Sawdust, the sensational vocalist Iarla Ó Lionáird joins Contemporaneous to perform a program of music from his native Ireland.

Composer Dan Trueman, who is currently working on a sweeping new work for Contemporaneous, has arranged sean-nós songs from the Irish tradition for Ó Lionáird and Contemporaneous, bringing to the stage a living tradition in a modern light. A hallmark of the ensemble's repertoire, Contemporaneous performs Donnacha Dennehy's terrifyingly beautiful Grá agus Bás for the first time with Ó Lionáird, for whom the piece was written.

This concert is the closing event of The Irish Origins: Samhain Festival, a co-presentation of National Sawdust and the Irish Arts Center and also includes a solo performance by pianist Isabelle O'Connell and a panel discussion including Donnacha Dennehy.
